Mark is a Lebanese film director and editor based in Toronto.
His work explores the intersection of displacement, memory, and identity through both documentary and narrative cinema, often blending dark humor with “punch-in-the-gut absurd” reality—a nod to the Lebanese cultural instinct to find absurdity in adversity.
His artistic approach centers on characters at society's margins, particularly those navigating fractured identities and systemic barriers. Growing up in post-civil war Beirut shaped his worldview, sparking a lifelong interrogation of collective memory and inherited narratives.
His visual style merges documentary realism with metaphysical surrealism, creating experiences that reveal the cracks of everyday life.
He views film as an act of reclamation—creating space for stories that reflect the in-between spaces many people inhabit.
Since moving to Canada in 2023, Mark has been committed to expanding representations of Arab identities in cinema.

CHARMLAND

Feature Documentary (in Post-Production)

In the hills overlooking Beirut lies Charmland, once a flourishing elite country club that embodied Lebanon's aspirations and excesses. Now abandoned and in ruins after years of economic collapse and political turmoil, this former playground for the wealthy has been transformed into something unexpected—a makeshift dog shelter and skatepark maintained by Carl, a devoted caretaker who refuses to let go.

As Carl rescues strays from Beirut's streets and brings them to this crumbling paradise, together, they create an unlikely community amidst the decay of what was once a symbol of privilege."Charmland" is an
observational documentary that examines how spaces transform when their original purpose fades away. Through intimate portraits of Carl, the film explores questions of utopia, collective memory, and the search for meaning in a nation struggling with its past and uncertain future.
